Alex Newman is the Birch Society’s most prolific contemporary essayist. On many occasions, he has posted articles or comments online which defend the Birch Society against accusations that the JBS has ever been connected to racial or religious bigotry.
Almost every time he responds to such accusations, Mr. Newman quotes brief excerpts from the 1963 Report by the California Senate Factfinding Subcommittee on Un-American Activities.
However, Mr. Newman never provides the relevant background information concerning the methodology used by the Subcommittee and Newman never quotes the subsequent update by the Subcommittee which was published in 1965.

As will be seen in my article, political extremist groups like the Birch Society deliberately omit materially important factual information in order to manipulate their intended audience into accepting falsehoods and misrepresentations about their own history and beliefs and associations.

As a kid in Glenview Il, IIRC HQ of John Birch Society, they were not unusual in the neighboorhood.
The parents of a friend whose parents worked for JBS were a bit eccentric.
They claimed not to spend too much time as a family group in case ‘something’ should happen.
They lived there for years and moved out almost overnight.

Fwiw I knew many of the folks in the Belmont, MA HQ back in the day and they were all very pleasant, intelligent, and never gave the slightest hint of anti-black or anti-Jewish sentiment.
