Nancy Pelosi lost the impeachment standoff (IMPEACHMENT HELD HOSTAGE - DAY 24)
The Week via Yahoo ^ | 1/10/20 | Matthew Walther

After nearly a month of dithering, Nancy Pelosi is finally accepting defeat in her standoff with Mitch McConnell over impeachment. Despite insisting as recently as Thursday that she would wait to transmit the articles of impeachment against Donald Trump to the Senate until she was confident that the trial in the upper chamber would proceed on terms favorable to her party, she quietly backed down on Friday morning. Her letter to Democratic colleagues in the House announced that the articles would be sent next week even though McConnell has made it clear that none of her demands - testimony from additional witnesses, for example - would be honored or even considered.

Is anyone actually surprised by this outcome? How likely was it that Pelosi was ever going to change McConnell's mind? All of the leverage has been on his side from the beginning. He would be the one to decide how the trial would proceed, when it would begin, and how long it would last. Having to surrender the fate of judicial proceedings to the opposing party was how this was always fated to end.

Was a delay actually in her party's interest? It could be argued that she hoped to persuade a handful of Republican senators to insist upon subpoenas for witnesses and documents. This did not happen, nor was it ever very likely. By the time Pelosi acknowledged that McConnell had the upper hand, Senate Democrats had been publicly begging her to surrender for days. "I think the speaker should send the articles regardless," Senator Chris Coons (Del.) said on Tuesday. "I think the time has passed."

It is worth pointing out that Pelosi's letter arrived amid McConnell's decision to sign on to a resolution introduced by Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri that would have dismissed the articles of impeachment 25 days after their adoption on the grounds that they had not been transmitted.

San Fran Gran Nan's phoney ploy expires tomorrow? That's gotta suck.

The Senate should dismiss the turd impeachment under the doctrine of laches.

Failure to prosecute and contempt of the Senate and its authority mean the grounds for impeachment don’t even have to be taken up.

This is all on the House Democrats.

If the Hawley rule is adopted, by the time articles are transmitted by the House, impeachment is already DOA and laches has already occurred.

Nancy and her House managers shouldn’t be allowed to benefit from their delay. They only gave in because of a looming deadline.

If they had a strong case, they would never have delayed sending it over to the Senate in the first place.

Don’t be surprised if it gets dismissed without even a trial being held.

This is all on the House Democrats.

How could House rats not know that their shamwow impeachment theatre would only bolster support for the President? Are they really that stupid?

They should have learned from the Clinton impeachment but they threw caution to the wind.

They’re that arrogant and now they’ll pay the price.

Why did Pelosi, a sober-minded, no-nonsense centrist ...

I had to stop reading there.

She had to throw meat to the radical leftists who now run the Democrat Party.

Nancy was trying to protect her position as Speaker but she’s gone regardless of whether or not Democrats keep the House in November.

Her botching the impeachment hasn’t exactly enhanced her political standing with the Democrat caucus.

Nancy isn’t that good a poker player, not when Mitch held all the cards.

The regular leftist radical kooks are REALLY ticked off that Pelosi is making a move. I suppose they think that keeping the articles in her garter belt is some sort of position of strength forever. I don’t even spend a second trying to figure out all that.

El Rushbo has a take -

RUSH: Yeah. Look, I know I’m a lone wolf. She’s saying they’re gonna go over there Tuesday. I’ll believe it when I see it. Well, she didn’t specify Tuesday. She said next week she’s gonna “take steps.” But she said yesterday, “Dismissal of charges equals admission of guilt.” That’s what she’s saying. If the Turtle dismisses the charges, he’s essentially saying that Trump’s guilty. Well, she ought to be pushing for that, then, ’cause that’s as close as she’s gonna get.

And then go out and try to make that case. It’s kind of like the advice I gave her. “Madam Speaker, all you’ve got here… The only thing you can do is to accuse the Republicans of bias and partisanship and mean-spiritedness and bigotry and all the rest - and that’s why your articles are not gonna get a fair trial because of the Republicans. You gotta dump on the Republicans.” Those are the two options that she has left, ’cause, folks, if they… (chuckling) If they go to a trial, there’s gonna be an acquittal - and if that happens, she’s toast.

You talk about shooting yourself in the foot or elsewhere?

Talk about self-forced errors?

That would be the creme de la creme!

Maybe, Nancy, deep state, George Soros and Hillary’s goons finally convinced the final 2/3 in the Senate, that they need to convict... and everyone is playing along with Mitch until that vote happens.

You have to have control of the Senate, which Botox doesn’t. Biggest reason Clinton wasn’t impeached, the Senate knew what a Kook Prince Albert global warming was, having worked with him.

Gore was NO PENCE! If they think Trump is bad, Pence is more strict. He follows Billy Graham’s advice. He may not show his strength, but it is their. PP would be shut down the first few days in office. 8 yrs Trump, 8 Pence, 8 Jim Jordan. We might salvage the USA from the dems.

Pelosi doesn’t care about impeachment, and never has. This is all about solidifying her power in a deeply fractured Dem party.

Impeachment is going to fail. She knows that. She’s going to blame the failure entirely on the Socialist wing - Schiff, the. Squad, et AL. She wants them out and she’ll get her way in that.

Schiff, the. Squad, et AL. She wants them out and she’ll get her way in that.

Dr. Drew said he just found out he is in Schiff's district and does not want to, but is considering running, he is so mad. When he is being interviewed on Fox, he is yelling on TV about the destruction of his city, he is going after Schiff.

Yet someone else has predicted that in 2021 Pelosi will be gone and no one will remember anything about her?
