Ahh, yes, this time the plan WON’T FAIL. Since it turned out that simply assessing and referring work to contractors ran $6,000 per home (other companies do the job for under $200), THIS time with much more money to waste than the 30 million blown from Obama & state funds from last time, it’ll be MUCH different.

Translation: If a retailer sells more than $500,000 locally and a billion nationally, all their retail sales are taxed 1 percent. And since corporations do not generate money, this means those who are supposed to be helped by this program get to pay the majority of the cost while (hahahaha) well intentioned people suck up money into their pockets.

Got me how companies are going to handle it; there’s no sales tax to toss a surcharge onto. I assume Portland hopes that most companies just suck it up and the whole country gets to pay for it (as corporations do not generate income, they charge consumers for their overhead/profit, so all corporate taxes are paid for by consumers as a part of the cost of goods.)

I guess Dollar Tree, Dollar General, Target, Walmart, etc can either change prices in Portland or change the size of products sold nationally to take into account the Portland tax. Either way, the people targeted for the benefits will end up paying for it (it just is a question as to how many more people they take with them.)

The Dollar Store will be changing it’s name to the $1.01 store?

Why do you need to have a sales tax to add a surcharge? The surplus construction place near me has a ~15% tariff charge on any kitchen cabinetry. It's only based on the stuff coming from China/other tariffed countries. If half my cart is local accessories, I get full sales tax but only 'half' the tariff tax.
