He almost for sure did not get $250 million. It would be very interesting to know what the figure was, but those sorts of agreements usually include a privacy clause about the total.
I doubt he got the whole $250 Million. Thats the point of settling but I bet he did get between $30 and $50 Million. Not a bad day and now WaPo is gonna take it in the shorts.
50% in taxes then the attorney he will end up with 1/3 AND CNN did not learn a damn thing from this NOTHING!!!
Is it taxable income?
They settled because they knew he would win and set a precedent that would absolutely take them down.
The “news” outlets have been doing this relentlessly with impunity. A big, high profile decision like this tips the scales for the foreseeable future.
:/ My search failed
This was already posted.
Please accept my apologies but
this should be the biggest story in the news today.
Does anyone know if this is a record settlement for a “news” organization?
CNN has lost all credibility.

Let that settlement grow interest, and SANDMANN’s set for life. Wonder if he’ll run for office someday?
Not taxable
“50% in taxes then the attorney he will end up with 1/3 AND CNN did not learn a damn thing from this NOTHING!!!”
CNN absolutely DID learn. keep it out of court and avoid setting a precedent. One where all others line up to sue for defamation and WIN.
This would spur a whole new industrial scale of lawyers suing and winning cases.
You’d be seeing ads for “Your opportunity to sue the media”, before and after all of the “ have you been injured ads”.
He should start SANDMANN Real News (SRN)
with some of the proceeds.
oh and his lawyers aren't anywhere near finished just yet...

I want (1) A public apology to Sandmann. A public apology to Trump supporters would be nice, too. (2) to know how much CNN had to pay.
Tax lawyer here. Proceeds received from civil suits where there was no personal injury, such as this one, are taxable as ordinary income.
The sheer irony about that smile is that he wasn’t even trying to smirk at the “noble Native American” as was widely reported. He was simply waiting for a bus with his classmates when the jagoff interjected himself into the crowd and started banging drums to evoke a reaction. Sandmann’s “smirk” was just trying to keep a straight face.
The local attorney is a friend of mine. He would only say it was an 8 figure settlement. The settlement precludes any appeal, the settlement agreement was signed before the court hearing which means the settlement has been paid and in the kids checking account. Thats a huge consideration. And yes, its taxable. Some portion may be deemed to be compensatory damages and escape tax, but the majority is injury compensation, is taxable at ordinary income rates.
Another major consideration is the other defendants now have incentive to follow suit and settle. MSNBC and CBS are next. Settlement from three defendants and were talking real money.
Im guessing the settlement was 40 or 50 million. Times 3.
Other defendants will be added, they are now playing with house money..
Alot of pressure to lose this case was the kid isnt a public figure, NEW YORK TIMES v Sullivan. Plus the kid is 16, beating up a kid plays great to a jury.
My hope is after a republican sweep of congress in 2020 our libel laws will be changed to rid us of the Times v Sullivan standard impossible to prove. A reasonable man standard would allow Trump to go after the media. His is the best lawsuit of all time.
To allow the 4th estate to deliberately lie with impunity serves to advance the destruction of our republic.
This is a big victory for truth and accountability.
I hope the ComPost gets hit with $250 million as well.
Serves them right for trying to write a hit piece and get the lynch mob all riled up over blatant lies.
We need more of this!
Everyone with more than 2 brain cells knew the kid did nothing wrong.
Whatever the $ amount, it’s a nice start in life. Hope he doesn’t go crazy with it.
“Sandman didn’t get his day in court...”
Actually, Nicholas Sandmann did get his day in court.
The word is that he got $25 million in the settlement.
This settlement will easily fuel the efforts against all the other media entities.
Nicholas Sandmann just got paid. College tuition fully paid for by CNN, the Leader in Fake News.
