'His Time Was Due': Defense Secretary Esper Lays Out Exactly

Secretary of Defense Mark Esper defended President Trump's decision to order the strike that killed General Qassem Soleimani, the commander of Iran's Quds Force, during a press conference at the Pentagon on Tuesday.

Soleimani and Kataib Hezbollah leader Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes were killed by a U.S. airstrike while they were in a car at the Baghdad International Airport. In a statement, the Pentagon said Soleimani was in the country to carry out more attacks against Americans in the region. Iranian-backed militias were under Soleimani's orders to attack the American Embassy in Baghdad on New Year's Eve.

Esper said they are not trying to start a war with Iran and that it was to send a message to Iran's leaders to not attack Americans anymore.

"Let’s take a look at history. Soleimani was a terrorist leader of a U.S. designated Foreign Terrorist Organization. He’s been conducting terrorist activities against us and our coalition partners for over 20 years," Esper said. "He has the blood of hundreds of American soldiers on his hands and wounded thousands more. And we could talk about the mayhem he has caused against the Syrian people, the people of Lebanon, even his own people in Iran."

Esper said Soleimani and his Quds Force are responsible for killing many Iranians. Soleimani's Quds Force is also responsible for over 600 U.S. military deaths, mainly through using sophisticated improvised explosive devices.

"This sense that somehow taking, somebody who by the way over the last few months had planned, orchestrated and/or resourced attacks against the United States that resulted in the killing of an American and the siege of our embassy in Baghdad, and was in Baghdad to coordinate additional attacks, to somehow suggest that he wasn’t a legitimate target I think is fanciful," he said. "He was clearly on the battlefield. He was conducting or preparing, planning military operations. He was a legitimate target and his time was due."

I haven’t heard any Democrats try to explain why he was in Iraq, not Iran.

Yeah, well, he was killed by a weapon a little more sophisticated than an IED.

There are many great things about taking out Soleimani... one of the greatest is the method of delivery.

Gotta love those drones.

“The Reaper, a $64 million long-endurance aircraft with a 66-foot wingspan, had Soleimani in its sights for about 10 minutes before firing on two cars carrying the Iranian commander and other senior leaders and aides, including the head of an Iraqi-based militia group that has been in conflict with U.S. forces.

The cameras on the Reaper likely would have made it possible to identify Soleimani, determine his location in a vehicle and even what kind of clothing he wore, according to Brett Velicovich, a former Army special operations soldier who directed drone operations during missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

If I am not mistaken.. during the war years.... specifically WWII... it was considered treason to speak against the President of the United States on foreign land or during a war.
I could look it up, but no time right now.. that is how I remember.. and it kept those who would have...from doing so.. for treason was serious and the cost was one’s freedoms in one way or another....

Today it angers me when they... without reason and without thought of the country or others... tear into our President on national TV... it should be treason, for it weakens us and emboldens those who are crazy enough to do something.

If that had been done to Obama.. he would have had them rounded up and arrested. and they didn’t do it because he had neat crease in his pants... because he was a “clean one” and because he had dark skin.... so what is the solution to those who tear into Trump.... and no one stops them.. the highest do it.. the dumbest do it... no one gets on a high horse and stay on it till they stop..

Obama had his way.. he was fake...he had a front he put on...where Trump is all fresh and open.... every time I hear one of those A$$es insult Trump I wish someone would shut them up.... carry them off... they have no right to insult my President!!!!!!!!!! just their lousy rude behavior that reduces them to children..

Obama would go on TV with his condescending tone... he’d give that dumb left liberal smile and then cut to the chase with sarcasm and hitting on everything we stood for... and he had his copy cats.... that is where the RUDE came in.. that is where the DIVISION was born.. and his skin is still dark... and he is now a very rich man... and if he does not change... “he has his reward while on earth”... and he doesn’t worry because we “are not a Christian nation” and there is no such thing as a Christian or ONE GOD in Heaven.
NO, there is always the muslims….who have the “most beautiful music” he will ever hear..

Good luck with that one...

I wanted Rush or someone today to remind people of the time that Clinton had the chance to capture Osama bin Laden and passed it up. Look at what OBL went on to do. This terrorist that Trump took out was no different than OBL. Who knows what kind of 911 he was planning.
