BULLSH!T! Look up MacNamara's Morons. I had two in my boot camp contingent, that I had to hand deliver to MCRD San Diego. Both were illiterate. They were congenial enough, most functional morons are, but they could not have found the San Diego flight at Lax on a $5 bet. Neither lasted the Induction Week.
Since the Corps had stopped accepting draftees by 1970, since they were sending home more, after a week or two, than they wanted to tolerate, it wasn't so much an issue as in the Army.
Democrats don't want to enlist, since they would rather infringe on other's Liberty than learn how it feels in the military. It's no Great Loss, and Leftist Children don't need to swear to an oath they reject.
I remember those guys. They stood at the back of the class so a DI could read them the questions AND the answers. This was 1967 when they had 2 yr enlistments to try and avoid the draft.
I remember the "you joined" speech when one moron pops off. "But sir,I was drafted" The DI walks back in the platoon gets right in the guys chest and says "Well private, you are just one unlucky bastard". He did not graduate.
BULLSH!T! Look up MacNamara's Morons.
You are throwing out the baby with the bathwater. One hundred percent, McNamara was an idiot, his program was a typical leftist wet dream, but the draft is unifying and good for society. It gives all Americans something to complain about, AND, here's the thing, most young men want to serve and work with other men in a demanding job, but fear the scorn of their contemporaries if they volunteer. But when they have no choice, they embrace the challenge.
Personally I have talked with many men who, looking back, wish they had joined so they could have had that common experience.
PS. Great tagline, subtle, to the point, and humorous in context.
