“Good God, the bureaucracy. I went to look up the text of the law,”

This is about the fift thread on this topic this week.

The first one was the click-bait conservative treehouse.

I suppose people are a bit freaked out about it, which is why we are probably seeing it posted so often.

I understand why. It is one thing to mandate to people via code that the only kind of toilet you can buy is one of these low water flush models...or that you can only buy a certain kind of lightbulb. Everyone grumbled, but we kept on going.

Then they said they wanted to put adjustable meters for water and electricity on houses, so they could not only be read remotely, but could be used to throttle end user usage. More of us grumbled, but it looks like that is the way they are going to go.

Now, they want to control outright the amount of electricity, water, or sewage a given household is using per day. It will start out by not. being enforced...until they want to enforce it.

I have long felt the truth of that observation that there are so many laws on the books, at any given moment a person could unwittingly be violating a number of them. Then, as some people more unfortunate than us can attest, when they want to put the screws to someone, they break out those kinds of laws.

As Beria (Josef Stalin’s Security Chief) once said “Show me the man and I’ll find you the crime.”

I am not from California, but I understand all too well what conservatives in that state must be feeling. I know, I live in a rat state myself. I think they have good reason to be concerned about this increase in government imposition.

IMO, they work for us. Instead of choking us or punishing us, they should be exploring ways to increase the water supply. I think they are crazy for not going full bore into large scale water desalination the way Israel has. Well, they are going to get pushed into that someday, but by then, they will be so broke and dysfunctional that will never happen now.
