Do you think the air traffic controllers at the airport knew there was a drone lurking above? would it have shown up on their radar?

I don’t know. But if it was flying low and slow enough, it might have been masked by or appeared as part of the “ground clutter.”
With such a small radar signature anyway, and if their ATC works with civilian radar versus military, then not likely.
Civilian ATC radar mostly depicts transponders - skin paints on a small target are difficult to see.

I likely wouldn’t have shown up on airport radar. A tricked up air defense radar with alert operators who were expecting a radar contact — different story.
