George Washingtons farewell address is often remembered for its warning against hyper-partisanship: The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. John Adams, Washingtons successor, similarly worried that a division of the republic into two great parties is to be dreaded as the great political evil.
America has now become that dreaded divided republic. The existential menace is as foretold, and it is breaking the system of government the Founders put in place with the Constitution.
.... SNIP ....
The country must break the binary hyper-partisanship so at odds with its governing institutions, and so dangerous for self-governance. It must become a multiparty democracy.

Our system accounts for hyper partisanship in its very design... You think the founders didn’t realize the nature of man??? Be serious they understood it far better than most today do.
They had no delusions that everyone was always going to play nice with each other.
And the author who wrote the above is concerned about division?
Actually, it’s a sick Republic with a growing Communist insurgency.
Federlist No. 10 has always seemed to me to be prophesy. We have been on the path to uncontrollable factionalism for a long time. The catalyst for this, IMO, has been a failure to live by and up to our Constitution; and I fail to see how a multiparty system could fare any better than it did in the Weimar Germany
The Left are not my countrymen. I want nothing to do with them if not for blood. They are filthy scum that should be put down.
The first thing that needs to happen is for stupid white females to realize they are voting for filthy scum that should be put down. It’s long past time for them to stop playing “minority” and get with the program. White women are the most pampered human beings that have ever existed on this planet! They live surrounded by a virtually impenetrable security bubble that deters their enemies, one they did not create but serves only to keep them safe from harm. It’s time for a little gratitude on their part!
A little slow on the uptake.
It could be done with ranked voting in some way. I would like to see the two party paradigm discarded, so something is worth exploring.
When we fought the American Revolution, only a third of us wanted a country. A third wanted to stay with the crown and a third did not care.
As I see it, it is the same now. A third want a country, a third want to have an overbearing UN totalitarian government and a third do not care.
“Author is very thorough in his discussion. “
Horseshiite.
If you read the same screed from the LOSER Left that I read, you really do have issues.
Not only is the article blindingly one-sided in it’s viewpoint, it’s also incorrect in proposing any solutions.
The writer wishes we evil Conservatives would just see the error of our ways and agree with them.
The problem? The CTRL-Lft is wrong about every major issue facing this fine Republic. You don’t compromise with those that are wrong, you beat them every chance you get.
The problem is we’ve let them get away with so much for so long that many on our side have lost the desire, fortitude and vision to fight back.
This republic has been divided from day one, some times are worse than others.
“America Is Now the Divided Republic the Framers Feared”
And we can thanks Osama Obama for much of that.
Be serious they understood it far better than most today do.

Yes they did, but the system they devised assumed at least some men of integrity would stand for the Constitution when an ineligible usurper came along.
They never contemplated BOTH parties wanting to run ineligible candidates.
We can thank Bush League Republicans for the Kenyanesian Usurpation.
He couldn’t have done it without them.
I’m not sure that the Democrats calling anyone who had a problem with Obama a RACIST did much to hold the country together.
Unfortunately for them, we had an election for us to respond.
No kidding-when I saw that it was The Atlantic, I had a WTF moment.
Leftists talk about the damage done to this country as if they had nothing to do with it.
“They are the democrats and we should act somewhat politely.”
Negative, I personally am tired of giving the Dems any semblance of respect or credibility.
They are as much my enemy as the chi-coms in my eyes
Deep state proclamation via the leftist Atlantic:
“America has now become that dreaded divided republic. The existential menace is as foretold, and it is breaking the system of government the Founders put in place with the Constitution.”
Translation: the Deep State just realized it is out-manned and out-gunned. The fascist game of looting and illegal governance is over. DC leftists are in deep doo-doo.
The New York multi-party “fusion voting” system is ideal for anyone trying to get elected outside the major parties. Few take advantage.
Third party activism & money is minimal.
And the GOP usually doesn’t want third-party candidates defeating Democrats. They don’t like competition.
At the time there were only 13 states. Now with 50, its harder to get consensus.
It’s the left’s fault we’re divided. The left is loyal to an ideology that’s directly at odds with our Constitution. How could there be anything but division under these circumstances?
