A man nearly drowned Tuesday when a towering wave caused him to topple off the seaside cliff where he was hiking.

Can’t swim too far or for too long in 54 degree water. Hypothermia sets in pretty quick.
At bonny doon, actually not very close to san francisco
There was a 3.9 earthquake along the coast in northern CA. Could that have generated the wave?
M 3.9 - 9km NE of Morgan Hill, CA3.9 - 9km NE of Morgan Hill, CA
The guy had a camera on his head which blown off when the wave hit
This happens almost every year.
Tourists don’t know that Northern California is NOT Baywatch.
I learned to scuba dive in Monterey.
ALWAYS keep one eye on the ocean
Yep. These waves are all up and down the coast of California. My wife and I were in Pacifica just south of SF, watching the waves crash over the sea walls, just a few miles from where we live. The pier was gated and locked, because waves were crashing over the pier perhaps 20 or more feet from the ocean. Tourists were walking and gawking at the waves crashing up and over the sea wall, drenching the street nearby. Very mesmerizing. Very noisy both from incoming and outgoing water. And the sprays of water created large mist clouds when they hit the sea wall. Absolutely beautiful. And very dangerous. There were warnings about the undertow, but some families were still cavorting on the beach and running away from incoming waves. Not something I would do with kids!
Holy Sh*t! Don’t mess with the ocean!
LOL, yes, that was me in the 80’s while in the USCG. The amount of idiots who own watercraft or venture into the ocean completely oblivious to its dangers was a daily occurrence.
Thought I lost my husband on a Nor Cal beach. I was yelling for him in vain after he disappeared. He was filming and didn’t realize over 30 minutes had passed.
A kind boater got his attention.
The sea had him and he had no awareness of time.
He could’ve just as easily been the guy in the video.. which I am sharing with him.
Did you dive Monastery? Crazy exit there.
The Pacific Ocean is happy to remind you that it didn’t name itself.
Yup me too Semper Paratus.
Many ready AC launches looking for and plucking dummies from the drink all because of stupidity.
I feel for these crewmen that pluck these idiots off mountainsides in horrendous situations that loose their life trying to save some self indulgent POS

We locals call it Mortuary Beach for good reason.
Pardon me while I go down to the beach to watch the tsunami arrive.
And it’s also happy to remind you that it doesn’t care about you at all.
