Congressional Democrats have fiercely criticized Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and other top Republicans in recent weeks for what they say is a lack of impartiality regarding President Trumps looming trial in the Senate.
But the proceedings of the last impeachment have proved a recurring headache for some of these Democrats, whose past comments on then-President Bill Clinton's trial have come back to haunt them -- and in some cases undercut their message today.
From Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler, both from New York, congressional Democrats are being reminded that they once made comments eerily similar to those being uttered now by their Republican colleagues -- and vice-versa.
Schumer recently lambasted McConnell for telling Fox News Sean Hannity that he will be coordinating" with the White House and "there will be no difference between the president's position and our position as to how to handle this."
McConnell was also criticized for telling reporters last month he would not be an impartial juror in any Trump trial -- which is in a holding pattern as Speaker Nancy Pelosi sits on articles of impeachment for now.
Schumer said recently he is utterly amazed by McConnells comments and labeled them an astounding admission of partisanship during a speech on the Senate floor.
Turning back the clock 20 years, however, shows Schumer making comments similar to those of the current Senate majority leader.
During a 1999 appearance on CNN's "Larry King Live," Schumer who was beginning his first term in the Senate indicated he already had a pre-opinion on how he would vote in Clintons trial and argued that the Senates role was not the same as a jurys role in a standard criminal trial.

Thanks, Liz...Those are two excellent graphics!

“I was disappointed to hear yesterday that Leader McConnell declared that he would be not be an impartial juror when it comes to the serious charges against President Trump,” Chuck Schumer said in a recent Senate speech. “He said it proudly. What kind of example does that set to the country that is looking for fairness and impartiality?”
But in 1999, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer went on Larry King Live and said the exact opposite of everything he is saying now. Schumer defended the right of every Senator to have a “pre-opinion” and explained that the Senate is “not a jury box” because the Senate is “susceptible to the whims of politics” and Senators can be “called and lobbied” by citizens.
That was then and this is now. Jerrold Nadler shepherding through a partisan impeachment showed us who is casting doubt on the legitimacy of our political institutions.
Thats his legacy to our country. What a difference twenty years makes.
Democrats = Hypocrisy. But it is indeed nice when their own words can be thrown right back at them as they look totally foolish.
I figured McConnell’s comment were meant to bait the Dems...seemed to have worked!
Yep, I doubt it could have worked better.
That's why I wipe my posterior with any word written or spoken by a Media "fact-checker".
Like peanut butter and jelly.
Combine the two words and you get "Democrite"...
Notice that the Media "fact-checkers" have all disappeared on this issue?
Because the Media "fact-checkers" are Democrats...
Yep, the enemedia don’t use fact checkers on RATs.
Both parties are hypocrites in this regard on almost all issues. The “deeply held” talking points switch depending on context. For example, impeachment and supreme court confirmations. Trump’s next appointment (may it happen in 2020) will show both parties completely flipping their “deeply held” convictions from the Merrick Garland appointment by Obama.
The difference is, the media repeats D talking points as if they were serious and largely ignores R talking points and the media will endlessly point out the R hypocrisy and largely ignore the D hypocrisy.
I honestly cant understand how anyone can vote for them.
Voting for them is an indirect way to stick it to whites, white men and Christians.
Note the huge chorus of Media "crickets" about the 40 currently sitting House Democrats who voted all four "Nays" for Rapin Bill Clinton's impeachment...
Where have all the fact-checkers gone,
long time lying?
Where have all the fact-checkers gone,
long time ago?
sung to the tune of "Where Have All The Flowers Gone?"
