The arbitrary limits on freelance writing are being attacked for free speech violations.

“If this goes through, the tax sucking thugs in Sacramento will not be getting many checks.”

Then president Obama was asked, We know that lowering taxes tends to produce more revenue. What do you have to say about that? He responded, “At some point it isn’t about revenue, it’s about fairness.”

Liberal tax policy isn’t about money. It’s about creating a desired outcome. They never state what that outcome is. I suspect it is about securing control. After all, if you have your own money you might do something stupid with it, like support abortion protests or President Trump.

70,000 independent trucking contractors, who BTW, own their own trucks. The barbershop I use has 4 barbers, 1 owner and 3 independent contractors. This law effects many.

“The 1099 workers...”

That is the crux of the matter.

CBS of course omits this “little”, detail.

Jersey is about to do the same thing. Ugh — they just want tax dollars. I’m sure illegal immigrants will be excluded

We live in California and hire people for specific jobs year round.

Also, we have a yard guy and pay him by check once a month to manage our yard (1 acre). He and his crew are here once a week.

The same for the lady that cleans our home on a monthly base.

Then, we have a window cleaner twice a year and others to do something that needs to be done when needed.

Are these guys/gals going to be unemployed?

Exactly right. The more socialist the state, the larger the black-market economy. When taxes are reasonable and business start-ups are simple, the black-market economy mostly disappears. You will still see it in an ultra-capitalist powerhouse like Singapore, but nowhere near like it was three decades or more ago.

Even when the black-market economy is ruthlessly suppressed, it is still there but far more subtle. Think the methods of contact for the A-Team on that old TV series.

I have wild and curly hair and most barbers can’t handle it.

So I go to a licensed lady who does my hair every 4 weeks. She is one of 12 in the shop who pay to use the shop.

“They never state what that outcome is.”

What is really the end game is a question we need to be asking about a lot of issues, especially environmental issues.

One way I can see around this is to set up an S-Corp and pay yourself on a W-2. I wonder, will that will work, or are these laws worded prevent it?

“CBS of course omits this “little”, detail.”

I have yet to see a news article regarding the slaughter of a US family in Mexico that says anything about the family. The readers are invited to think this is just some average American family that happens to be living in Mexico. They are a crime family and, doubtless, did something to annoy another crime family. But we are left with wholesome photos of beautiful children and no relevant information about the family.

You would think this new Law would fly in the face of Interstate Commerce when you are dealing with OTR Truckers.

Just another way for the State of CA to control the Masses.

Same here - I wonder how they intended to handle the long-haul truckers that are/are not based in Kalifornia...

The goal is to make these people employees, force them into a union, and collect dues for the DNC.

As a contractor I can legally pay an individual and call him an independent contractor if certain conditions are met.

The independent contractor merely has to get a Federal ID number and some basic insurance coverage.

It has been that way for many years.

I know numerous contractors who called their employees independent contractors and gave them a 1099 at the end of the year. It is easy to get caught doing that. It often happens because one of them will file for unemployment only to be declined because there is no record of them being an employee. That will get the ball rolling.

The employer will then be audited by unemployment, State withholding, IRS and Workers Comp people. They can go back seven years and not only does it put them out of business but they can’t get rid of the huge backtaxes and penalties through bankruptcy.

“”to return jobs in the trucking industry to good, middle class careers.””\

Very middle class for the Indian visa drivers.
