Of course in order to decide whether or not to impeach, Senators needs to hear from these witnesses.
But Pelosi made this problem for herself. She could have utilized the House subpoena powers to compel these fact witnesses to appear before her chamber, where she makes the rules. She could have allowed the executive privilege claim to be tested in the courts. Instead, she rushed the vote on an artificial timeline “before Christmas,” twisting the arms of members in purple districts and alienating moderate Democrats in the process. There are 30 odd freshmen Democrats who were elected in 2018 in districts Trump carried in 2016. Now they’re getting shouted down at townhalls over their impeachment vote.
All this Pelosi did because she said Trump is a threat to democracy and he is a threat to national security.
Yet if she believes that, how can she now sit on the very same articles until the Senate agrees to do things her way? Suddenly there is no urgency to impeachment.
The insistence on specific witnesses appearing in the Senate trial also points to the weaknesses in the House case.

That's a shame. Next question - should Senators running for President be able to vote to remove the President? Doesn't seem very 'fair'.

I think the general plan is to drop the Impeachment Articles off the Friday before State of the Union message and try to get Trump hyped up to say a bunch of non-union comments.
If I were Trump....I’d have the speech typed up and handed to the House/Senate Thursday night prior, and plan on giving a State of the Union ‘speech’ at some arena in a Trump-state to a friendly crowd.

The “articles of impeachment” are entirely specious and trash not to be valued at the price of the paper they were printed on.
You want witnesses at a trial? Well, don’t be asking the questions if you do not already know the answer. Things can go sideways pretty quickly, and a line of questioning that begins to reveal how the assertions of impeachable “crimes” came to be, is going to lay bare a LOT of skulduggery and chicanery, some of which carries pretty severe punishments.
Can of worms, you know.

When is Christmas recess over and the politicians come back to Washington to continue to meddle in our lives?
Impeachment is falling off the radar, as the lefties want. Soon it will have gone down the memory hole.
Then when asked about it Nanzi will say: “Impeach the President? We never impeached the President.”
I still think that this sham impeachment and withholding of the articles was meant to freeze Trump so the rats can continue to look for more crap to throw at the walls.
In the parlance of another time, Nancy Pelosi has her teat caught in the wringer. Hurts like heck and she can’t figure out how to pull it out. Her hearts desire is to remain Speaker, but her so-called caucus has created an untenable position for her.
Pelosi is obstructing, abusing power and interfering with 2020 elections.
It seems odd that, after the house of representatives has a legal, binding vote on something, that a single member of the house can, on her own, decide to ignore their vote, and “veto” the measure.
In fact, I’d have to think that it is illegal.
Imagine if, in 2012, the democrats in the house minority had managed to talk enough republicans into voting to discharge something the democrats wanted, and then won the vote in the house.
And then imagine that the republican speaker of the house simply decided NOT to send the bill to the senate for consideration......
(Of course, there have been times when both the house and senate have passed bills, but in different forms, and the speaker of the house has refused to sit a conference committee — but in that case, house rules provide that it is the speaker of the house that does that, and “conferencing” is not a legal matter, but a procedural one).
The article says there were thirty odd Democrats elected to office...I will couch for that, they were indeed odd!!!
