New state population totals released Monday offer fresh signs that political power is poised to continue its shift from the North and Midwest to the South and Southwest in ways that could help states that have voted Republican in recent years.
The Census Bureau on Monday released state population estimates for the year ended July 1. Congressional seats and electoral votes are allocated to states based on a census conducted every 10 years. Because the 2019 estimates come less than a year before the next decennial census, they closely approximate which states will gain and lose as a result of the 2020 count that gets fully under way in the spring.
Based on Mondays figures, Texas is poised to gain two congressional seats, while Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Montana, North Carolina and Oregon are each expected to gain one.
Eight states are likely to lose one seat: Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, West Virginia and California. It would be Californias first such loss since it became a state in 1850.

Wait a minute. Didn’t I read some post here last week, which in effect said that because of massive Latino immigration, the Democrats were set to gain to the tune of 26 congressional seats or something to that effect? Color me confused.
I think Mont. currently has the most populous House District.
Notice El Paso and Hidalgo counties in the graphic. This will play hell with the Mexican national vote.
It last had that few in 1813-1823.
By linear extrapolation, by about 2110 New York should be down to a single congressional district.
(Also by linear extrapolation, by 2110 New York's combined state and city income tax rates should be about 10,000%.)
Colorado is being inundated with every third world mutt the immigration services (yes, Catholic Charities, Lutheran immigration Services). We are overrun with illegals and they’re so confident they are opening their own businesses. The grocery store I go to looks like the United Nations and they are getting public assistance (welfare). These people need to be deported as they came to suck off of us.
I read that too, and it sounded to me like complete nonsense. I guessed that the author had moved a decimal point in the wrong direction. (Or was high when he wrote the story.)
I am running into a paywall?
Blue states are not doing so well.
Yep, so they are moving down here and bringing their idiocy with them, even though they claim theyre not. Its happening slowly but surely.
Slowdown....
If they succeed it's game over.
“If they succeed it’s game over.”
Nope. Game starts. Hot war.
Right now, the average Joe is copping out when it comes to tolerating government encroachment into our daily lives. As long as it is affecting someone else, “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
But what will people do when the left insists that their daughters change in the locker room in front of persons who have penises? What will they do when a transexual person is in charge of their children’s sex education and there is mandatory lessons on sex techniques? What will they do when Planned Parenthood opens abortion centers inside of public schools? What will they do when they are taxed at 50%? What will they do when government death panels become part of “health care”?
I agree but the sad fact is most people are not engaged enough to do the research so you’re back to square one. Who’s the best liar and has the most campaign cash.
