I have been influenced though with some training videos some guy posted here on the forums some time back about how fast a perp can make up the ground between you and him before you could get a shot off. It is scary and why they teach officers to shoot to kill, no warning shot. And shoot many times.
“they teach officers to shoot to kill”
No. LEOs are told and trained to shoot to STOP. Never say shot to kill. Say shot to stop him from being a threat. It he is killed as a result of shooting to stop.... that happens.
“I’m not going to watch again, but the way I remember it was that the shooter had the gun pointed at the guy he asked the question to, and then only turned toward the first defender while they attempted to draw.”
I did watch it again:
the scumbag is moving back and forth in the corner for 5 seconds;
then he comes back to the standing man (usher?) he asks a question
the standing usher points towards the first seated defender who then gestures in the direction of the scumbag
the scumbag brings up his long gun before the seated defender rises and starts his draw
scumbag shoots the now standing defender who was beginning his draw, and then the scumbag shoots the usher.
Other defender (who eventually kills the scumbag) only starts moving as the first defender is getting shot.
Seems to me PROFILING SHOULD BE MANDATORY.
Better to apologize to some oddly dressed non-threat than to let some SCUMBAG DRESSED IN A LONG BLACK COAT get the drop on everyone.
