Trump Issues Warning to California Governor About Homeless Crisis

President Trump warned California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday that he needs to fix the homeless crisis in his state or the federal government will have to step in.

“Governor Gavin N has done a really bad job on taking care of the homeless population in California,” he tweeted. “If he can’t fix the problem, the Federal Govt. will get involved!”

Governor Gavin N has done a really bad job on taking care of the homeless population in California. If he can’t fix the problem, the Federal Govt. will get involved! https://t.co/2z8zM37PUA— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) December 25, 2019

In an op-ed by the San Francisco Chronicle on Tuesday, the editorial board notes that the growth in the country’s homeless population is a result of California’s problem.

“While the latest counts compiled by the federal government show that America’s homeless population is growing again after more than a decade of declines, the entire national increase and more can be attributed to California alone,” the board writes.

Surprisingly, the editorial board also places the blame on Democrats.

“Although the state has the worst housing shortage on the U.S. mainland, resistance to dealing with it remains endemic among the Legislature’s ruling Democrats and in nominally progressive cities such as San Francisco,” they write.

Based on a January census widely believed to underestimate the true figures, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development reported Friday that the nation’s homeless population grew by about 15,000 people to about 568,000, or 2.7%. The number of Californians without homes, meanwhile, spiked by more than 21,000 to nearly 130,000, or 16.4%. The state’s exploding homelessness was enough to overwhelm declines in 29 states, among them Washington, Hawaii, Massachusetts and other states with substantial housing pressures.

While the nation’s homeless population remains about 10% lower than it was a decade ago, California’s has expanded more than 22% in that time. With less than an eighth of the U.S. population, California is home to more than a quarter of the nation’s homeless people and more than half those who are unsheltered. (SF Chronicle)

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson said last week that California’s homeless problem was at a “crisis level” and “needs to be addressed by local and state leaders with crisis-like urgency.”

Don't be an idiot.

What was my original post? Do you even know?

Unless Trump can show exactly what exactly he intends to do and the specific Constitutional power authorizing him to do it, he needs to stay the hell away, even as bad a CA is. Constitutionally, CA is basically up to the people of CA, NOT the feds.

Don't give me this "concern troll, condemning" bull sh#t. What I said was sound and sane and what we should be doing.

With ANY politician, ESPECIALLY federal, those who we favor and put in, we should treat it like a treaty with a foreign country. Remember, whoever you and I put in those positions have great power over us. We should do what Reagan said, "TRUST BUT VERIFY". Always.

Also don't forget the prize: Recovery of our Free Constitutional Republic. Trump isn't the prize but hopefully he'll help us achieve the the prize.

Keep your eyes on the prize.

When you opined it the way you did -

“But government isn’t business. Our Free Constitutional Republic in domestic matters was designed to run SLOWLY. SLOW government is GOOD government. The Nazis were quick. Fascism is quick. Totalitarianism is quick. The separation of powers, checks and balances, and the delegation by the Constitution of certain enumerated powers to the feds were all designed to LIMIT and SLOW government especially in domestic matter.

Unless Trump can show exactly what exactly he intends to do and the specific Constitutional power authorizing him to do it, he needs to stay the hell away, even as bad a CA is. Constitutionally, CA is basically up to the people of CA, NOT the feds.”

- it presumed he may be prone to overstepping - same as what Dems have been doing.

Also ignores the fact that Kalifornia (and the rest of States) are also taking Federal money (and always demanding more) to handle many of the problems they incur...which opens a whole new bucket of worms.

Of course he’s prone to overstepping. Everybody is, especially politicians in such positions of power. Dang, man, that’s why we TRUST BUT VERIFY. That is the job of the free citizens of this great country of ours. Don’t go to sleep.

Remember what is the greatest threat to our well-being, livelihood and freedom. It’s not California, Newsome, or the Man in the Moon. It is the $4 TRILLION Federal government, 80+% of which is unconstitutional and has become essentially totalitarian. Under the wrong guy, it could take all you hold dear in a heartbeat. Obama showed us that.

Our job is to do whatever we can to get the feds back into their constitutional cage so they are no longer that kind of threat to the American People. The standard for federal acts MUST be the Rule of Law of the Constitution, not the Rule of the Whims of Man, even Trump who I love, because when the baton is passed, sooner than later, the standard of the Rule of Man will spell the end of our beloved country.

That is why every election now is considered to be the last one for America if the wrong guy gets elected. We’ve come WAY too far down this road and MUST bring recovery back to America. Trump is here to do just that and it is up to all of us to see that he or any federal politician stay within the bounds of the Constitution. Don’t assume. TRUST AND VERIFY.

A better question might be, “Why do so many concern trolls keep presuming and lamenting the worst, despite having as much evidence such ‘concern’ is justifiable as the Dems have for impeachment?”

Am even better question is regardless of whether Trump has a solution or not, why is this a federal issue? Or is your definition of a 'concern troll' someone who has an understanding of the Constitution and is concerned when a violation of it is proposed?

Gosh - you must be right.
President Trump wants nothing more than to trample on the Constitution and States Rights ... even as he cuts government regulations/taxes/interference at about every possible level.

C’mon, Rosie,
You are starting to remind me of Schiff.

Oh you mean the federal funds about which the feds threaten if it is NOT taken? Federal funds? More like federal extortion - mafia stuff.

There is NO excuse - money, extortion, bribe - for the feds to stray outside the specific powers enumerated and delegated to them by the Constitution.

The Left for 100+ years have deliberately created dependence on the feds, EXACTLY the opposite for the principles of freedom and INDEPENDENCE as sited in our Declaration of Independence that our country was founded on.

Federal funds or extortion/bribery?

Quit defening the Left’s plan to bring down Ameirca.

If you get federal taxpayers’ money, no different if it’s CA or Ukraine, you’d bloody well better be able to account for how you use it. If you can’t, and if Trump makes it suck to be whomever is abusing taxpayer trust, fine by me.

Yeah - it’s all Trump’s fault the States got hooked on federal funding and accepted the strings until the Dems decided they didn’t need no stinking rules.

Trump is trying to decrease such policies and you try to tie him to them because they opt to waste money the Congress has deemed they need to be given.

Tokyo Rose made better arguments.

We’re in a war in case you didn’t notice. A war for the soul and future of America. Thomas Pain, George Washington and our Founders were no “Tokyo Rose” when they warned and rallied the troops against the greatest military power on earth. Neither are Patriots today against today’s greatest power on earth - our own totalitarian mostly unconstitutional $4 trillion government beast.

Your failed analogy only reveals how confused you are about what’s at stake here. You talk like your either brain dead, tone deaf, or YOU’RE some kind of Leftist troll.

Per McPaper, what CA got from Fedzilla in 2017: Total revenue from fed. gov.: $436.1 billion (the most of any state).

Trump was the original topic - you have scattered your thoughts and made references to much that was not part of the original comment/reply.
You also seem to be getting a bit emotional.
I am generally against making gifts of our money to the States and specifically against allowing them to waste/misspend/squander/steal it.
Some Federal funding is right and proper because normal capitalism is not designed for things like the one-time need for such things lighthouses and other finite niche type items.
Eisenhower instituted the road system that really kicked off a wave of change and FReedom of motion - to maintain coast to coast connectivity it is right that federal funds be used - it is wrong that they not be used as intended.
Every handout needs to be scrutinized and pared as necessary, and misusing them needs to be punished, but until such time, it is also right and proper for there to be penalties for a history of abuse/theft of such funds.
Kalifornia is getting funds that should be used to ameliorate the homeless problems and they aren’t using it properly...they also wasted a LOT on the high speed rail fiasco and have declared they will not pay any back.
I believe in much of what you’ve been saying but you twisted some of the context to make it seem reasonable to question Trump on a “what if” whim of the mind - else we might very well be on a similar page.

You’re presuming I mean something other than what I am saying. I mean what I say, nothing more, nothing less.

I’m not presuming anything about Trump other than what I’m saying: that WE the PEOPLE should be watching the acts of any federal official, especially the higher officials, in the light of Constitutional limitations, State sovereignty, and the people and their God-given (not man-given) freedom.

I did what I accused you of - presumed a meaning that wasn’t there - as age sets in and so many seem to be hovering on the edge of the “dark side”, I sometimes go off when it isn’t called for.
