Remember when the Democrats thought money politics was a bad thing? That moral certainty started to crumble when Hillary Clinton outspent Donald Trump by a factor of at least 2, and still went down to defeat. And while vilifying Wall Street makes for good progressive virtue-signaling, the Dems are now the party of plutocrats, buying with welfare and money transfers the support of an underclass kept angry and dependent by progressive policies that hamper job-creation and reward idleness and dependency.
President Trumps tax and regulations cuts have boosted job growth and income at the lower end of the market, imperiling this strategy, but that hasnt stopped the billionaires lusting for power and still welcome in the party. Maya King of Politico writes:
Together, Tom Steyer and Michael Bloomberg have poured nearly $200 million into television and digital advertising alone, with the former New York mayor spending an unprecedented $120 million in the roughly three weeks since he joined the presidential race. Thats more than double the combined ad spending of every single non-billionaire candidate in the Democratic field this entire year.
Weve never seen spending like this in a presidential race, said Jim McLaughlin, a Republican political strategist who worked as a consultant for Bloombergs mayoral bids in New York. He has a limitless budget. (snip)
Steyer isnt spending at the same stratospheric levels as Bloomberg, yet with $83 million in ad buys so far, hes still far outpacing everyone other than his fellow billionaire. The next highest spender on ads is Pete Buttigieg at $19 million.
Many readers know that political consultants love campaign advertising because they get a percentage of the spend in compensation, often 15%, which really adds up when a budget of $120 million is up for grab. And thats just for 3 weeks.

I lived in New York city when Bloomturd first ran for Mayor and I remember he made a commercial and put it on VHS tape and made 8 MILLION copies of it and sent it through the mail to every resident in NYC. Just an insane waste of money, so I suspect he’s going to be doing the same today.
No, the money is received by somebody, and they are happy to have it.
Bloomberg and Steyer are training voters to ignore big-money political ads campaigns. In this, they are doing the country a great service.
Boston TV stations must be doing
well as Steyer and Bloomberg buying
lots of ads in an attempt to
win nearby New Hampshire.Web ads
too.
LOL. Of course they are. It’s still money down the crapper.
Bloomies version of quantitative easing for msm.
They may have money but they don’t have the brains or the charisma to make it. Just give your cash to charity idiots.
A small contribution to the booming economy.
Advertisers are making $$$ on these bozos, and neither bozo will so much as move the needle.
Good
Trump is helping the economy in so many ways!
Winning!
This is their only purpose - inject money into the Hate Trump propaganda machine. They know they can’t win the nomination.
Yeah, both of them have the charisma of a high school biology teacher. Not the funny lovable one, the one who spoke on monotone and you had to fight to stay awake.
A fool and his money are soon parted.
That, if true, is utterly insane. Consultants that get a cut of how much is spent on campaign advertising?
How much more of a conflict of interest can you get?
15% is an insane cut at these numbers.
It is not as though they are raising the money!
The JEB! Bush method.
That’s odd. I was still living there in 2001 and I don’t remember that.....nor did I receive one....nor did any of my acquaintances at the time mention receiving one....nor do I remember seeing a pile of VHS tapes at the mail boxes in my apartment house. (they could NOT have fit in the boxes)
Of course he may have thought he had no chance in Crowley’s district in Queens anyway, but....?
We have the great pleasure of not having to pay any of our money to watch any democrat's commercials on our tv.
Oh he definitely did mail them, I lived in Astoria Queens at the time, AOCs district and I remember all my neighbors getting one and I kept it a long time. I wish I saved it because I would imagine it could be worth something and I remember reading he sent one to every resident in NYC. I’m trying to find a story on it on the net.
Here’s one mention by the NY Times I found on Google, although I can’t read the whole article because the NY Times wants money to read it.......
