SORRY but you were LIED TO by the US press. = Those men were NOT police officers, of any sort whatever.

They were German soldiers with a few BORDER GUARDS & most had NEVER been in a single firefight or even trained together as a unit.

KNOWNG LIES are the “mainstream press” main “stock in trade”. = Believe NOTHING that the press claims & you will be correct 70-99% of the time.
(I’ve had several incidents over the last 50 years where they lied about operations that I participated in, so I trust NOTHING that they claim W/O neutral confirmation from KNOWN/TRUTHFUL sources.)

FYI, during the RVN War, CBS news accused a childhood friend of “committing war crimes” that occurred more than a YEAR after he was KIA in 1968.
When his widow proved that the accusations were FALSE, the CBS News Department then accused him of OTHER WAR CRIMES that happened even longer after his death in combat.
