American troops were surprised that the French they were “liberating” didn’t seem to be living so badly under occupation after all - and the British were disgusted that while their own people were dealing with strict rationing, the French appeared well-fed. Probably explained why the Americans landing in North Africa two years before were shot down by French troops there...
