I’ve been to Chicago. As long as you stay in the tourist area, you’re safe. Had a good time while I was there.
It doesn’t mean I would want to live there.
I was in the Chicago area for a week for work last year. I stayed at a different hotel than many of my co-workers. It was about a half mile away along the magnificent mile.
One night I walked over to join them for dinner and then walked back. It was very noticeable how different the crowd in the streets was three hours later. Not unsafe yet, but definitely getting there.
