I was at Incirlik in 1982. I never thought the Turks were our allies.

And regardless of what you thought about the Iraq invasion at the time, or now, when Turkey wouldn’t allow us to stage out of Turkey, it became even more obvious they are not.

And they were at my base at Geilenkirchen NATO Air Base where I ran the Vehicle Registration Station. The Turks were allowed to register new cars throughout office with tax free purchases. They abused the privilege. It was not unusual for them to buy and register 15 cars a year while on a NATO assignment. I tried to limit their registrations allowed, but I was told to shut up and color...didn’t want to lander an ally!
