You mean Byzantium? ;)
Yeah sure. That one.
In hoc signo vinces.
O need for correction.. hence my comment that it was once strategically important. That implies it is no longer.
And they were at my base at Geilenkirchen NATO Air Base where I ran the Vehicle Registration Station. The Turks were allowed to register new cars throughout office with tax free purchases. They abused the privilege. It was not unusual for them to buy and register 15 cars a year while on a NATO assignment. I tried to limit their registrations allowed, but I was told to shut up and color...didnt want to lander an ally!
Erdogan has Europe and the EU by the chops, as much as I hate to say it. Right now he’s playing a masterful game. I think it’s been quite apparent that he’s an Islamist, but I think for him, it’s more about the power and position than it is for the faith. And he’s got his hands on the door to Europe. One word and the invasion of Europe, through Turkey will be biblical. They will flood that continent at such a rapid rate, Europe won’t know what hit it.
And all the Islamic apologists would be hanging from lampposts in short order.
Interesting thing is, having been to Turkey about a year ago to see some sights, it doesn’t appear as though the people are down with that plan. I went out to eat in the Taksim Square area. The Turks ain’t shy about sitting down, enjoying some grub and knocking down some cocktails. And, I was amused by how many folks were taking pictures of their food and then thumbs blazing on their smartphones, posting the pics on IG, Snapchat and FB.
But, get anything serious out of Incirlik, starting shutting it down and moving folks out of there. It’ll take a little bit, but do it and tell him to F*ck Off. Move the base to somewhere else in SE Europe and let that country reap the financial benefits of having a bunch of American’s with money to spend.
You don’t want to know how cars are taxed in Turkey. Cheaper Lada models cost around $40000, base model mid-size Kia close to $100000.
We should just leave NATO.
Don't give MA Governor Baker any ideas!
The thing is that he can open the gateway, but Turkey has borders with Greece and Bulgaria — those two have closed borders with Turkey.
He’s a lot of hot air.
True. But at the end of the day, unless Greece and Bulgaria are willing to use lethal force against the zombie horde that will show up at their door, it doesn’t matter. Soros and the media will strategize and put some crying kid on the tv, describe the deplorable conditions, blah blah blah blah blah and the EU will cave, if not demand that Greece opens its doors.
Personally, I love the lethal force option to repel borders, but that’s just me.
the Bulgarians and Hungarians already do so. The Greeks too
