At 9:30am tomorrow morning, on the Senate floor, I will speak about House Democrats precedent-breaking impeachment of the President of the United States.— Leader McConnell (@senatemajldr) December 19, 2019
(Excerpt) Read more at twitter.com ...
And those rules have a provision for a dismissal.
“adjourn the Senate in recess immediately, and not reconvene until Articles of Impeachment are transmitted from the House”
Nice.
Alternates:
- give absolutely no indication the Senate is officially aware of impeachment until the transmission occurs (when it does, the letter is the ONLY communication accepted by Senate from House)
- censure Pelosi immediately (like 10:00am tomorrow) for even _suggesting_ a delay for political reasons.
I think you're right and that will shut Slimy Schumer down.
Officially without the article's of impeachment in the hands of the Senate there has been no vote. What is the set number of days does she have or the impeachment becomes void?
Two things about McConnell, he knows the ins and outs of Congress and he loves to beat up on Democrats. He will not get outplayed by Pelosi.
Thank you for your sane and sober assessment of Leader McConnell.
He may not be everything we might desire in an aggressive majority leader ... but we could do a lot worse. And yes, I’m thinking of Paul Ryan, who really was the corruptocrat a lot of people here on FR accuse McConnell of being.
The decibel level of the whining on some of these threads is getting painful. I think I need to put some Brahms on the CD player.
Yep, he understands tactics very well.
I am assuming the President and Republicans had already thought about this and will be initiating their plan tomorrow morning .
To the House Clowns: That dog wont hunt.
fyi, both Lurkinanloomin and josixchip are major trolls and really not worth the time to respond to ...
Whatever his faults as a conservative, McConnell is VERY good at getting things done. And no senator believes the House controls the Senate!
I’d bet a large sum of money that McConnell is PISSED. And I’d match his wits against Pelosi any day of the year.
Mitch needs to put an expiration date on those articles of impeachment. like 10 days.
Ditto.
I trust Leader Mitch McConnell... he’ll get us through this horror... and he’ll place a new crop of judges just for the fun of it.... Good man.
I Don’t trust McConnell further than I can throw his swampy carcass. If Trump has a role for him, so be it.
It’s Dems and Republicans in one big swampy club. I’d crawl through busted glass to vote for Trump, and I wouldn’t piss on Mitch if he was on fire.
Wasn’t Good Man Mitch stomping on Tea Party candidates a few years back, and how about all those judicial recess appointments?
Mitch has put in almost 150 judges who will change the nature of law in the country for a hundred years. He outsmarted democrats to put two judges on the Supreme Court.
Mitch is on our team now and that’s good enough for me. I totally accept Cruz too... let bygones be bygones. We need every soul we can find for the battles ahead.
Nancy doesn’t have to transmit anything. It’s not like they can say they didn’t impeach.
McConnell will simply announce we are using the 1999 Senate rules developed for Clinton unanimously.
And announce the date the trial will begin. Probably somewhere around Jan 6th when everyone is back from recess.
Nancy, have your managers onsite and ready to begin at 0900 EDT.
Or, he’ll introduce a Motion to Dismiss tomorrow. It only takes 51 votes, no filibuster. 4hrs of debate, then vote.
“Officially without the article’s of impeachment in the hands of the Senate there has been no vote. “
Be real.
It’s not like the House can deny they impeached Trump. It’s a done deal.
The Senate is under no obligation to wait for the House to do anything. They are driving now.
And there is no power in the world that can stop the Senate from handling this as they damn well please.
McConnell could introduce a Motion to Dismiss tomorrow morning using rules approved 100-0 in 1999. And he could allow but 4hrs of debate before voting.
All of which is in perfect compliance with the Constitution.
LOL.
Hey, at this point it's just the DEMs running the news cycle, taking the oxygen out of the room with what is a pointless story.
With Clinton, Impeachment was in mid December, both chambers recessed for Christmas, and the House managers showed up in the senate around the 9th of January. Some sort of weeks long delay is normal.
Not naming managers is abnormal, and the House saying it is considering "withholding" the articles is abnormal, so the news knee jerks to that.
Mitch can safely ignore this abnormality. Say that the Senate will act according to its rules when the House managers appear, and not before.
