He’s a nice guy but a dull speaker. I doubt this time will be any better than the last.

Stabenow was considered a shoo-in, Mr. James was never expected beat her. But somewhere along the line, she revealed some weaknesses and Mr. James was a much better candidate than anyone expected. He closed the gap and made a fight of it.

Now, with one campaign under his belt, he is a solid contender against Gary Peters, a nonentity in the Senate.
