The wife and I are going to exercise our 2nd amendment rights before Richmond takes it away. Never owned a handgun before, and she didn’t want me to keep my shotgun in the house. Now she’s all in.

Thinking of going to Clark Bros. Any other suggestions?

Likely going w/ Ruger 9mm, just want convenience, enough firepower to defend, and easy access, especially when we’re camping.

I never liked shotguns. I’m too light so can’t stand the kick. However, an in-law has a mossburg 20 gauge for which he only used bird shot. No kick at all on that.

I did buy a 12 gauge once, never fired. Only got it because it was just $150 including shipping. Some no name thing from Turkey. I figure the sound of cocking it is enough of a deterrent so won’t have to embarrass myself with an intruder by bowling myself over from actually firing it.

Mis-read your post. I don’t have any recommendations of stores. The shotgun I got online and picked up at a dealer in Prince William. Forget the name.

Per pistols, it depends who uses it. I don’t like the plastic stuff because the lightness of the gun makes it recoil more. If you want to cut down on recoil and don’t have a prob w/the weight, a 1911 is great. Thin magazine good for grip with smaller hands too. Obviously, fewer rounds though. So, I’d say a 45 is actually a good starter piece for the above reasons.

I don’t like pistol calibers below the 9 because they seem to jam more. Maybe my inexperience there. You’d have to be sure to clean them after every range trip. Maybe even mid-way through your range trip.

Per concealed/compact, I have a relative that has a SW 40 compact that he likes a lot.
