What is happening now is that Trump is defining Biden to the public and especially to working-class voters in the midwest. Biden is still the likely nominee and it’s hard to redefine someone who’s as well known as Biden.
Biden is trying to hit back.
This is what Obama did to Romney during the primaries. By the time Romney was nominated, working-class voters knew Romney as a guy who gave his employees cancer and canceled their health insurance, fired people, and tortured dogs. The election was already over.
I don’t think Trump’s efforts will be as effective as Obama’s because making Biden out as a corrupt, bullying old guy doesn’t overlap the target swing audience as well.
