Nadler wants to talk over the final scenes in this drama with Nancy and the leadership.
If this effort is doomed even before the start in the Senate, it might be well to never even let it get there. That way, there is no big trial with the Republicaans orchestrating all the embarrassing testimony (for the Democrats), the records of the investigation are all sealed and kept away from Republican scrutiny, etc., etc.
If it comes to the floor of the House, there will be a vote and a lot of freshmen Democratic representatives will be on the spot. The rumored number of defecting might even be enough to have the impeachment motion fail to pass. If they do stay loyal and pass the impeachment, all those vulnerable Democrat House representatives will now have their loyalty votes to impeach hung around their necks in the next election. The Republicans will flail them down to raw muscle and bone during the election cycle.
The Democrats may be able to save at least some of those seats if the full House never has to vote. The way to make that happen is to have the impeachment effort fail in committee. It would only take a few veteran Democrats (hopefully already planning on retiring from safe districts) voting against impeachment to end the matter and maybe even offer a censure resolution as an alternative. Those Democrats need to be identified and paid off since this vote, necessary as it may be, is not going to be understood by the party fanatics and will make their reelection impossible. Some sort of compensation for what they will go through is going to be required. If this is going to happen, the players and the price is being worked out right now.
This is just speculation but a failing impeachment vote in committee tomorrow morning would be pretty convenient.

Yah I agree...this will be the easiest out for them. They'll vilify Trump but vote against it saying the nation has gone through enough and they will let the Democratic process play out and fight against his re-election blah blah bhal...
