Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., made a puzzling argument on Tuesday in order to counter a conservative nonprofit's argument about free markets providing paid family leave.
"Do we know how long puppies are allowed to stay with their mothers after a dog has given birth?" she asked during a House Oversight Committee hearing on paid leave.
"Uh, eight weeks. So, the market has decided that women and people who give birth deserve less time with their children than a dog," she added.

Well.... There IS that. Butbutbut now it is a federal law punishable by imprisonment to tear the limbs from a rat. But we can still do it to baby people.
Actually is is six weeks but that dumb ass knows nothing about dogs either.
Most states legally requires 8 weeks, while a few allow 7 weeks but ONLY if accompanied by dam.
For some insanely stupid reason, DE allows 6 weeks which is far too soon.
Ideally, pups should be left with their dam and litter mates for at least 10-12 weeks to prefect their social skills.

States require??? Do we live in the same country? 6 weeks and they are weened. I may not sell them until the are two months but at six weeks they are separated from their moms.

I think what she is really saying is that women and people who give birth (apparently two separate groups) should not return to work until their children become independent.

There is a far better point to be made in favor of generous parental leave policies: they increase the birth rate among the citizen population. Of course, if AOC learns of that, she might just become an opponent of parental leave.

Any mammal whose young have teeth, wean when the teeth start coming in. Our female dogs feed the pups for 6-8 weeks max. Humans breastfeed about 6 months. TEETH BITE.
