On paper, the speaker of the House and chairmen of the relevant committees announcing they will impeach the president should feel like a historic moment and a rarely equaled disgrace for the presidency. This day should feel momentous, grim, and solemn. In this presidency, it feels like Tuesday.
On paper, the impeachment hearings did everything House Democrats wanted them to do. While some of the key testimony was second-hand, the witnesses painted an ugly picture of the administration and president, focused on farfetched tales of a lost server and obsessed with the Bidens and not seeming to give a fig about what the military aid meant to Ukraine. The major television networks covered the hearings live. The objections of House Republicans were largely ridiculed by the media. The GOP was unable to introduce witnesses to interrupt the Democrats narrative or divert attention to the Bidens or other topics.
And yet the polling is about where it was at the start of October. As of this writing, in the FiveThirtyEight aggregation, 47.1 percent support removing the president, and 44 percent dont support removal. Thats not good for the White House, but thats nowhere near where Democrats wanted it to be. Theres nothing resembling the bipartisan consensus that Democrats had previously called a prerequisite for moving forward with the removal of a president. In fact, impeachment could well be hurting Democrats chances in key swing states. A recent survey found removal is opposed by 50.8 percent of voters in Michigan, 52.2 percent of voters in Pennsylvania, and 57.9 percent of voters in Wisconsin. Whether or not you think the hearings were persuasive, the evidence suggests they didnt persuade many people who didnt already support impeachment.
The hearings didnt seem to change minds in the House of Representatives, either. So far there is no indication that any House Republican is considering voting to impeach. There are murmurs of frustration and discontent among moderate House Democrats. Most House Democrats will fall in line, probably. But at the end of October, 232 House Democrats voted to start the inquiry. The articles are unlikely to get that many votes, in part because of the death of Elijah Cummings and the resignation of Katie Hill. The House currently has only 233 Democrats. The only drama in the upcoming House vote will be if any Democrats join the two who voted against starting the inquiry Collin Peterson of Minnesota and Jeff Van Drew of New Jersey or if either man changes his mind.
Also, what happened to all of those charges against Trump? For the past few weeks, weve heard many Democrats insist that Trumps actions constituted bribery, extortion, violation of campaign finance laws, and witness intimidation. All of that got dropped, and the articles of impeachment cover the umbrella term abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
After all of this, theres nothing referring to Trumps actions in the Mueller report. Apparently the so-called evidence of obstruction of justice laid out by the special counsel just didnt warrant impeachment.
Finally, apparently President Trump is such an anti-Constitutional menace that the freedom and fairness of future elections cannot be guaranteed unless he is removed . . . and he is also the kind of man that House Democrats can reach a deal with on trade deals and family leave. Both of those agreements are much bigger surprises than the decision on the impeachment articles.
Impeachment is turning into a historic blip.
Impeachment has as much significance as calling everyone a racist.
AOC and the rest of the tards told us they’ve seen TONS OF EVIDENCE OF ALL MANNER OF CRIMES.
Yet this is all they came up with.
And the truth is not pretty for the demderps.
Impeachment puts the truth on national television with EVERYBODY watching.
These people are stupid.

Its a historic defeat for the Democrats. They labored for months over the mountain of impeachment and produced - bupkis.
This has turned out to be the mother of all Seinfeld impeachments. Whether or not Democrats vote on articles of impeachment is irrelevant.
Because everyone sees this farce for what it is..for MONTHS all we heard was QUID PRO QUO and BRIBERY, not a peep about that today because the Dems have NOTHING except Abuse of Power, LOL which can be “He put more salt on his food than Obama and Bush combined” Obstruction of Congress for not testifying LOL another pathetic joke..they had to do SOMETHING to give some meat to their whack job base, its the reason why they won the House in the first place
Maybe because even the low IQ’d Democrat supporters can see it’s all complete crap?
The Democrats wanted to divide the country. They have succeeded. One of the unintended consequences is that no one’s mind is going to be changed by any of this. The Dem Trump-haters will hate Trump regardless; the Trump supporters will hate the Dems regardless.
The point is that the Democrat Party today declared war, not on Trump, but on the American people. When the people come to this realization, the best result will be a wipeout of liberals at the polls. Every other result is going to include a greater or lesser amount of violence; I fear it will be the former.
It is not impeachment. It is continuous, unconstitutional harassment of one branch of government by another branch.
Oh please don’t throw me into the briar patch, oh please. . . .
Because Trump isn’t going to cower in the corner like the Bushes.
He’s a New York brawler.
They live in fear of their moonbat base. Theyll kick the proverbial can down the road.
Democrats delivered on impeachment. Whats next?
Ultimately, this impeachment is really directed at all those who supported Trump, because that's who the Democrats really hate. So, Trump is taking one for the team, and he has earned a great deal more respect because of it.
Democrats have shamed me... into voting for Trump again!
Bring it on!!!
So IT’s and IMPEACHMENT about NOTHING!!
Yup. What crime has Trump committed? Were still waiting to hear it.
Nixon should have put up a bigger fight. "Watergate" was a phony baloney impeachment too, and should have been treated like the ridiculous joke that it was.
The only real problem Nixon had was that his own party was going to stab him in the back, and were it not for Republican backstabbers, Nixon could have remained, Vietnam would never have turned communist, and millions of people in Cambodia would still be alive.
The Washington Post is responsible for creating this fake scandal in the 1970s, and so far as i'm concerned, the blood of millions of people are on their hands.
The Washington Post is the Mouthpiece of the corrupt, degenerate "Deep State" liars and influence peddlers who get rich off of Washington DC influence and control.
The Washington Post is the biggest rotting fecal component in the entire cesspool that is our capitol city.
Please Oh Please don't throw me into that briar patch!
“Impeachment is turning into a historic blip.”
Impeachment has now a new category: Being Too Good. Being Too Good for your adversaries to beat you. Donald Trump has ushered in a new category for impeachment. This is historic. Never before has there been someone impeached because they benefited the country so much so that their opponents, in order to compete, had to resort to impeachment. This is not a blip.
