As is often the case, there is more to the story than meets the eye. A viral video circulated last week showing an illegal immigrant using a rope ladder to scale a new section of the border wall, with the help of two people on the Mexican side. But on Thursday, Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO) shared a video of a border patrol agent explaining that despite the video making it seem as though the wall doesn't work, it did, thanks to ancillary security features.
Yesterday, a video showing someone illegally crossing into the United States over the new border wall went viral, Graves said in the tweet sharing the video. Today the Border Patrol revealed there was more to the story.
Spoiler alert: the suspect didnt get away and the wall worked as planned, he added.

Less than 24 hours ago, a video showed up on both Facebook and Twitter showing an individual climbing the border wall. That individual was assisted by the use of a rope ladder and two subjects on the Mexican side, the officer says. In the video clip, the individual makes it over the border wall and begins to run north into the United States.
He continued: The border wall systems consists of not only a physical barrier, but also lighting, patrol roads, and detection technology. While the physical barrier serves to slow down illicit traffic, the detection technology alerts our agents as to where and when threats emerge. The patrol roads allow for a rapid response.
Standing at the location of the incident, he said the "system worked exactly as designed."
"The illicit traffic was slowed down. The detection technology alerted our agents. Agents responded, and the subject was apprehended," he explained.
That subject turned out to be a 16-year-old Mexican male. All too often, criminal organizations exploit juveniles in this regard, the agent said. Through partnerships with the government of Mexico, coordination is currently underway to locate the other two subjects involved in this incident.

but of course that info won’t ever be aired by the fake news media.....
Hopefully the child was returned to his family
How was he handled after he was ‘apprehended?’ Was he repatriated, charged with illegal entry, given release in the US and a court date, or something else?
Some high voltage wires at the top would help.
#FakeNews from the mainstream media? Again? Inconceivable!
Pit spikes would be nice.
This is the concept that I was trying to explain to certain members of my family last year who seemed very dismissive about the wall. The wall is an impediment. It’s meant to deter people from trying to cross by making it more difficult, and it’s meant to slow down those who it doesn’t deter making it easier to apprehend them. Obviously not everyone is going to get caught.
The irony of their dismissivness is that they dont’ want to pay for the wall. We spend trillions on all sorts of waste and pork, but when it comes to several millions just to erect a wall, they suddenly get frugal. Well, if the wall isn’t going to work, why are you so against it?
Exactly right, the wall is simply to slow the agile ones down and discourage the not so agile ones.
Compared to losing our country, the cost is miniscule.
And rattlesnakes, cacti, and scorpions.
Probably have photoelectric beam sensors on top.
Maybe next have rapid-response drones with mil-grade pepper spray and 110db sound blaster.
Maybe someday add high-power lasers on top that can burn fabric.
“The irony of their dismissivness is that they dont want to pay for the wall. “
My immediate response would be, “I don’t want to pay for the cost of their welfare, legal counsel and fees, health care, and educating their children. Much less the cost of their legal representation, court costs, and detention if they commit crimes inside the US.”
When is the last time anyone heard of a caravan heading north? The word is getting out regarding the wall, Mexico's improved border security, and asylum seekers now have to remain in Mexico. We can thank Pres. Trump for all 3.
Defense-in-depth is a concept not all readily accept. Sequential obstacles allowing only a small fraction to pass each barrier reduce the onslaught to a trickle by the end.
Isn’t there still an ability of people from any prior country to claim a ‘credible fear’ and get an asylum hearing?
I'm not sure what the current status is. The President was talking about an Executive change in our Asylum process, but not sure if he got that done. Guess I'll research. I do know that with his threat of tariffs on Mexico products, he convince the new Mexican President to beef up their southern border and to keep 3rd nation asylum seekers in Mexico.
I do know that International Law says the first free non-persecuting Country they reach is where they are suppose to apply for asylum.
Pres. Trump is keeping his campaign promise, and has lower illegal immigration by some 80%
There was a report of one teenager scaling the bollard wall, but with the detection system in place Border Patrol apprehended him immediately. The head of CBP said the wall worked perfectly as designed.
