Some 70% of the Earth’s surface is water, and about half of land is practically uninhabitable aka “rank wilderness”.
That leaves about 4.8 habitable acres per person, plenty to completely serve one’s staple needs (agriculture, housing, heat).
In the 1800s the metro Phoenix area was “uninhabitable”.
Now 4.5 million people live there.
Metro LA, same:

It is a moving target.
