I remember a lot of people were concerned about J. F. Kennedy being Catholic, and therefore perhaps under the influence of the Vatican.

Now what I am wondering is, how many Catholic voters are under the influence of the Pope?

Obviously some of them are. Obviously not all of them are.

This Pope has precisely ZERO influence with this Catholic.

But you are right, there are many who do listen to him.

It’s why I believe a schism where some of us break away has become inevitable.

You won’t find many here on Free Republic, if a single one.

White evangelicals made up 1 in 4 of all voters in the 2016 election. The only demographics that broke for Trump more than white evangelicals were Republican men (90%), Republican women (89%), and conservatives (81%).

Americans who attend religious services weekly also favored Trump, but by a narrower 56 percent to 40 percent margin over Clinton. Monthly worshipers also broke for Trump more narrowly, 49 percent to 46 percent.

Exit polls also indicated that Trump swung the Catholic vote back to the GOP by a 52 percent to 45 percent margin, after a majority of Catholics sided with Obama in the previous two elections.

Almost none will be influenced by this stupid statement.

However, those who are left-leaning to begin with WILL use this statement to try to influence those who are not. And it always comes across as opportunistic nonsense.

Instead of calling someone "Hitler" like the rest of the leftist mob, the Pope calls them the first century equivalent..."Herod". Either one is illogical.

I can answer your question, “How many Catholics are under the influence of this Pope?”

The answer is: Not very many. Liberal Catholics love him and conservative Catholics treat him with skepticism and disbelief. As Pope he has no more influence in matters of secular political issues than any other Catholics including the laity. His influence is only as far as the people who listen to him and who like him. For Catholics who voted for DJT in 2016, nothing will change. They will treat Pope Francis’s statements on our border issues the same as they treat Nancy Pelosi’s views. [not at all]

Please add my name to your NOT column...

Commie Frankie is an appeaser...As said by Churchill, “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile — hoping it will eat him last.”

The Catholic Church was once a bulwark against the Commies...Seems lately much of the clergy have taken up their standard...
