President Trump on Thursday challenged House Democrats to impeach him fast and ship the process over to the Senate, where he threatened to seek testimony from top Democrats including House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
...
But despite his threats, the president does not, alone, have the power to call witnesses to testify in those proceedings. In the Senate trial, three separate parties have input to how it will play out: Senate Republicans, Senate Democrats and the White House.
...
A senior Senate Republican aide told Fox News last month that once they receive articles of impeachment, they will begin working on two resolutions one that governs the timeline of the trial, and the other that sets up witnesses for closed-door depositions, as well as which witnesses will be required to testify on the stand.
The aide suggested that Republican senators like Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.; Senate Finance Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Senate Homeland Security Chairman Ron Johnson, R-Wis. could be attempting to help shape the witness list and the trial in their recent attempts to obtain documents and information from the administration and companies related to Hunter Biden.

Should drag Felonia Von Pantsuit in there too. Make her answer some questions.
You need to read the article, Trump will not be in charge. mcconnel will have the backing of the dems and will limit Trumps defense to the actual articles of impeachment. This is not so much about removing Trump as it is about damaging him for the 2020 election. The repubs hate Trump as much as the dems.
Unfortunately, I agree completely with you.
McConnell and the GOP recently blocked the outstanding Ratcliffe from the DNI post. The idea they will suddenly begin to firmly support POTUS after 3 years enabling the coup is a sunshine pumping day dream. Not going to happen.
Trump will not be in charge ...This is not so much about removing Trump as it is about damaging him for the 2020 election.
I agree with the second part.
But remember, they used everything except impeachment (only because they couldnt at that point) to try to damage him in the 2016 election.
And who was ultimately in charge then?
Sure, they will be in charge of the traditional impeachment in DC, but Trump will be in charge everywhere else, and his counterpunch we-the-people impeachment of House Dems will be more impactful.
As he said in the midterms, there are to many House races for him to get involved in helping separate campaigns. But now hes able to coral them all under this one issue, and to rally voters to vote against any rep who voted to impeach him.
So I stand by my prediction. In 2020, Trump WILL be in charge!
Trump will win, and the GOP will win 50 or more seats to take control of the House, effectively impeaching the House Dems.
