I can't see a situation where Donald Trump would have walked out of that establishment after being shouted at. Trump is a fighter and as a result, he is the president of the United States.
Trump is showing Republicans how to win but not everybody is up to taking the lessons.

Trump cancelled an event in Chicago in 2016 when it was clear the leftist mob took it over.

Only Trump is the president. Scaramucci and Bannon tried too much free-lancing and got fired.
Pence doesn't try to compete or outdo Trump and he remains a faithful Lieutenant.
Some can do it just fine, Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kellyanne Conway come to mind, but they were in positions where they were expected to do it. Deputy of Homeland Security might be an excellent administrator, but not a great snappy-come back artist. Cuccinelli has to be allowed to play to his strengths, and not put Trump in a crossfire not of his own making.
