That being said, do you not think it is still a good idea to support the efforts of the demonstrators in Hong Kong? Of course. But don't you find it kind of odd that Congress suddenly gets up off of its sorry ass to produce something right smack in the middle of when POTUS is working with China on a fair trade deal?

These are the biggest and most serious demonstrations ever mounted against Chinese rule. And Xi is putting people in concentration camps, demolishing churches, mosques and temples and kidnapping people from Hong Kong and putting them in gulags. That’s new. The magnitude of these demonstrations pushed Congress into signaling to Xi that if he begins massacring Hongkongers, Uncle Sam will take measures that might go as far as a total Cold War-style embargo. This bill is just a taste, a shot across the bow.
