So what good is supporting a cause if later you back out?

Better off for companies to not even bother getting with causes in the first place, and just focusing on their core business, and leave the charity to individuals.

That is how it used to be. Most big companies stayed neutral or out of any political controversy.
Basketball great Michael Jordan stays mostly out of such issues even now. Otherwise, you lose business from half the country.

Of course, staying neutral was much easier years ago, when most Americans agreed on a few specific things.
Fewer played their Triggered-Victim Cards 15 years ago.
