As has been noted the media is an integral part of the left. But the media has a distinct advantage over the politicians of the left. While leftist politicians have to stand for re-election periodically, the media does not. Therefore the media can support any hair-brained person, idea, or scheme and suffer no ramifications when that fails. The media is even less accountable than your average DC bureaucrat.
Much of the fourth estate is/are simply a bunch of fifth columnists. There needs to be some way to balance the scales. Many in the leftist media should be held accountable and some should pay the ultimate price for treason.

Want to destroy the MSM? Fairness Doctrine. Now is the time for new rules about fairness and honesty in the media. Force them to label every show, newspaper article, radio show as opinion and what side they are taking. While Hannity would gladly embrace having his show labeled as Conservative, think what would happen if Maddow and Lemon had to label their shows as Liberal?
