The Ivy League is, in my opinion, obsolete. But it will not be abolished voluntarily. And somehow, I am reminded of another, quite different League--the Hansa Teutonica (The Hanseatic League).

I recently read an excellent history of the Hanseatic League. The author concluded that the 30 Years War really broke the league. But it still stumbled in some form for 300 more years.

And so, the Ivy League maybe will eventually wither--and not many will notice until the decay is undeniable. Of course, I think the entire U.S. university system is fatally flawed and heading for a crack up.

Sort of like the Reformation; and yet the parent church had the wealth and property to soldier on for 502 years and counting...
