Several members of Columbia Universitys 2019 championship fencing team wanted to hand deliver a letter to President Trump Friday, accusing his administration of having perpetuated a culture that conditions women and minority gender identities to be silent.
Elise Gout and three of her teammates planned to hand the letter to the president during a White House visit for athletes and coaches from 22 collegiate national championship teams. Gout said that the letter argued that the Trump administration has perpetuated a culture that conditions women and minority gender identities to be silent to sacrifice the space they have every right to take up. The letter also criticized the administration for proposing changes to federal rules that would affect campus sexual assault survivors and for implementing new regulations that prohibit groups that receive federal grants from referring patients for abortion.
But Gout was later informed by a Trump aide that she could not bring the letter with her into the East Room. White House spokesman Judd Deere said the Columbia fencers visit with Trump was cordial, and White House staff extended an invitation for the athletes and coach to come back to the White House at a later date to discuss any policy concerns they have. The four signatories noted in the letter that it only represented their views - fencers who competed on the 2019 championship team and graduated earlier this year - and not Columbia University or the fencing team.

“””Male fencers are like male figure skaters. Lots of fags. “”
My son was the captain of the fencing team in high school.
He is ok but now that I think about it a few of his teammates could have been fags.
What a prick. I mean, “epée.”
I can’t imagine the granmitical, syntax, and just spelling errors in a collegiate letter these days...
The Columbia fencers should be at the southern border putting up the fence there.
I’m not really for besmirching the sexuality of people just because there may be some gays who do the same things. But Gout’s co-writer may be compared to $3 bills.
Nolen Scruggs looks ready for his Tony award. Not sure which gender Quinn Crumm, but he/she’s possibly just very unfortunate.
Eliminated all male-female teams. Just select the best ten(or whatever number) members irregardless of sex and let them compete.
Course we know who will yelp the loudest but it will just show everyone who the biggest hypocrites are.
SICK OF IT..
TIRED OF THE SAME OLD THING.
NOBODY CARES.
Try to find something of importance about which you could write a story that would interest some people.
“Male fencers are like male figure skaters. Lots of fags.”
I have no interest in sport/Olympic fencing (which this is), but I am a historical fencer in HEMA. Studying treatises written 600 years ago for German longsword is extremely nerdy, but fighting with a steel federschwert is a tough workout and good full-contact training. You have to wear more protection than typical fencing, but it’s relatively safe.
8. Wrong. I was on a varsity fencing team that won many MAC championships, tied for fourth in the 1966 NCAA championships, produced three All-Americans (including 2 repeaters), and had at least two of us in Vietnam/Cambodia - Lt.Geoff Hamm, our first All American fender in decades KIA from wounds, June 1966, and myself as a pro-American journalist, Fall 1970, and probably others I don’t know about. We practiced hard, fenced hard, won by our skills, and I know that Geoff fought darned hard in leading his men against the communists. We were real men on that team. You hard to be to win!!! In Nam, you had to be a real man regardless of sexual orientation. DON’T insult people you don’t know.
I dated a div 1 Fencer. He was not queer.
Horse face LIB lunatic and nitwit loser,
Uhhh... If that’s supposed to be the women’s fencing team from Columbia U., then why do the jerseys all have a W?
I seem to recall a long scene in one of the Roger Moore Bond movies where he and the bad guy were fighting with sabers.
It lasted several minutes and, if not filmed in short segments instead of continuous action, would have quickly tired out anyone.
