“Trumps intervention into the Navys affairs has angered senior military officers and civilian officials”
Just wow. Trump’s “INTERVENTION”? We’ve just seen a couple weeks of this crap from nobody civilians who defied Trump’s handling of Ukraine. Now THIS? From the MILITARY? Defying the Commander In Chief?
What has this country come to?
“What part of Commander in Chief doesnt he understand?”
Maybe it’s the “in” part of the title. Maybe he’s recalling Obama calling the title, “Commander AND Chief”.
Hey, assmonkeys, he's the COMMANDER IN CHIEF.
Spencer MUST be relieved of duties.
As well Rear Adm Green and many
other Obamaites.
Oh, Trump should take this opportunity to give this mutineer a lawful order. Summon him to the White House. Tell him to go bring you a cup of coffee. Tell him no cream or sugar. Then after he brings it, tell him all proceedings against the SEAL are over. Ask if he has any questions.
This
After the Navy decided to review Gallagher SEAL position (entirely within their rights, even with the pardon), Trump made it clear to stop it and get back to work. The SecNav KNOWS this and has gone to the press to complain, versus simply contact the President and asking him in private.
THAT is the problem.
No argument with you there. There can be no doubt that the Republican party has worked to stymie him.
Ryan and McConnell barely concealed their resentment of Trump “The Outsider” who dared to actually do what the voters wanted.
Nor do you have any idea if any order to cease the review board has been issued. If it has been, then disobeyed. The President should fire them all. But unlike a lot of folks on this site, I would wait until an order has been issued before calling for keel hauling’s, floggings, courts martial etc.
I agree with you. I do not know and neither does anyone else.
It’s being overblown anyway as is everything Trump.
Correct, a mountain out of what is a mole hill.
UCMJ Article 88
Good-bye
A phone call from President Trump to the Secretary of Defense is all that needs to be done. Once the Secretary of Defense calls the Navy Secretary and the CNO, nothing more needs to be done. If it does, people need to be fired for insubordination.
From the Hill:
Trump weighed in again on Thursday, tweeting: The Navy will NOT be taking away Warfighter and Navy Seal Eddie Gallaghers Trident Pin. This case was handled very badly from the beginning. Get back to business!
The Navy responded in a statement, reportedly saying that it would follow lawful orders from Trump regarding the situation, suggesting that a formal order had not been passed down.
An indirect Tweet is not a direct order. I am a former line office in the Navy. I agree that Gallagher was treated wrongly in this instance, but if the Tweet is all Trump has done, it is not a direct order. There are proper channels for that.
I was a line officer as well. SecDef wouldn’t be talking to the press and suggesting he might resign if he DIDN’T believe Trump was giving him an order - albeit not a word for word order.
If you have a question about your boss’s orders (or direction), you ASK. You do not whine in front of your subordinates and you do not go to the press. If you have a problem with your commander, you take it up with the commander. Not the press.
It would have been OK for him to answer questions with, “I’ve asked the President for clarification.”
PRESIDENT TRUMP IS COMMANDER IN CHIEF. INSUBORDINATION CANNOT BE TOLERATED.
Unless the process was corrupt, as in this case...
I thought Richard Spencer was a Neo-Nazi. Ron Richard Spencer?
“...Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper and General Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, conveyed to the president that if he followed up that tweet with a direct order, there would be huge consequences: Mr. Trump would lose Mr. Spencer and Admiral Green, further infuriate his top military leadership...”

“Four officials said Spencer was strongly considering resigning if Trump follows through with a written order to end the investigation.
Rear Adm. Collin Green, who leads the SEALs, also threatened to quit over Trumps interference, according to the New York Times.”

Doesn’t look like their problem was in UNDERSTANDING the order.
“Barack Obama will confront General Stanley McChrystal at the White House tomorrow as he decides whether to sack the commander of US and Nato forces in Afghanistan over disparaging and “contemptuous” remarks about senior administration officials, including the president himself....
“Today I accepted General Stanley McChrystal’s resignation,” is Obama’s opening remark....”
Not sure how that differed from now. FWIW, at the time, I thought Gen McChrystal NEEDED to resign ASAP. There are things one just does not do.
Trump should have immediately sent written orders to the SECNAV and Adm. Green, after that crap.
After giving them direct orders, he should have stated that if they disagreed then he would expect their letters of resignation on his desk no later than 0900 Monday, 11/25/19.
