China on Thursday demanded President Donald Trump veto legislation aimed at supporting human rights in Hong Kong and renewed a threat to take strong countermeasures if the bills become law.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act undermined both Chinas interests and those of the U.S. in the semi-autonomous Chinese city.
We urge the U.S. to grasp the situation, stop its wrongdoing before it's too late, prevent this act from becoming law (and) immediately stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs and China's internal affairs, Geng said at a daily news briefing.
If the U.S. continues to make the wrong moves, China will be taking strong countermeasures for sure, Geng said.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi joined in the criticism, telling visiting former U.S. Defense Secretary William Cohen that the legislation constituted an act of interference in Chinas internal affairs and ignored violent acts committed by protesters.
This bill sends the wrong signal to those violent criminals and its substance seeks to throw Hong Kong into chaos or even to destroy Hong Kong outright, Wang said.
The human rights act mandates sanctions on Chinese and Hong Kong officials who carry out human rights abuses and requires an annual review of the favorable trade status that Washington grants Hong Kong.
Another bill prohibits export to Hong Kong police of certain nonlethal munitions, including tear gas, pepper spray, rubber bullets, water cannons, stun guns and tasers.
The House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved the bills Wednesday, a day after the Senate passed them on voice votes. The bills now go to the White House for Trumps signature, and the White House signaled that he would sign the measure.

After reading this..did the rats trap Trump?? You know they don’t want to give him ANY win under no circumstance!! The rats know that if there is no signed agreement with China then trump implements the tariffs and the market will tunk...They are itching to destroy Trump’s economy at all cost! I guess I’m reading into this too much. What say you? The rats are diabolical!
Just eat those infected pigs and rotting wheat

ImVho,
China demanding that the POTUS do/not do anything is a good reason to NOT comply.

It’s moments like this that you realize China has no idea about how things are “supposed” to work here. They have a cynical, brutal understanding of politics by fraud, corruption coercion, etc. But no real idea how our system actually should work when it is operating as designed. Trump is operating foreign policy as designed, and the Chinese have no clue. Keep telling Trump what to do! That’s worked so well for everybody else who has tried it.

The most troubling line in the entire article
For dems, anything that stands between them and being in power has to go even if it is the Economy. If they manage to sink it, they will blame Trump of course. He has a Hobson’s choice here, damned if he does, damned if he does not. His call, I am confident he will chose the right course.

Smart move, virtue-signaling while actually merely undermining the President's and this country's trade battles with an enemy nation that has "most favored" status.
Geng Shuang is interfering in U.S. Internal affairs.
Go pound sand, Geng.
I thought the same as you immediately. I think its an issue that China and Hong Kong must work out without our official meddling. Trump can still meet with the Chinese concerning human rights abuses.
Or... perhaps sticking it to China will actually assist in the trade negotiations.
Odd, that the Dems and Neocons are so gung ho on sanctioning Russia but hardly let out a peep on Chinas far, far worse human rights record.
this is a first step: The Chinese insist on “extradition” of anyone they want to extradite for a “Crime”. Never mind the British law of Hong Kong that gives people rights to fight charges. This would enable them to arrest anyone talking against China.
Their long term plan, which they have actually stated, is to take over nearby lands they claim to have owned in the past: not only Taiwan and VietNam, which were once a Chinese colony, but even Luzon in the Philippines, which never was part of China.
Since Korea was a long time “Client state” of China, they have to worry too, but the big worry is their long term plan to take over Siberia: first mass immigration of Chinese to eastern Siberia, and then pressure to make that area part of China, maybe via “voting” of these immigrants, or maybe just by economic pressure since they are taking over the economy there.
and I won't even go into the reeducation camps of the Muslim minorities in China (which the NYTimes reported a few days ago in detail). Yes, China sees them as a threat, since the Muslims, both the Uighur and the Han Muslims, revolted in the 19th century causing wars, but since China is also repressing the Buddhist sect of the Falun Gong and the Christian underground churches, one can see where this is going.
You seem to be a troll pushing Chinese talking points, but some of us live in Asia so know you are telling lies.
Hey China. Do you guys need any more rice to go pound? We will sell you more if you need it.
