I am ‘guilty’ even though my kids graduated long ago, when it came to elections, basically voted for the ones ‘lucky enough’ to get listed on top, and not really checking out the candidates......

Hard to see a problem here - it’s a PUBLIC SCHOOL and they answer to the people who sign their paychecks, which is the government (NOT parents).
If parents don’t like having a non-accountable entity in charge of the education of their kids, then they need to do something about it, and I’m talking more than bake sales, as in either run for office themselves or find candidates who support ending the near-monopoly.
