Try the book Dawn Like Thunder by Mrazek about torpedo squadron 8, some of those pilots ended up at Guadalcanal after they managed to live through Midway. They helped start with the forming of the Cactus air group at Guadalcanal. Ive read the books you mentioned. Amazing men all.

Amazing men indeed...as a Marine boot I was taught that the Navy abandoned 1st MARDIV on the beach and to therefore resent the Navy.
After reading Neptune's Inferno, I completely understand why Fletcher and Turner did what they did and my opinion has changed. The Navy
suffered terribly in those night battles with the IJN around Savo Island enduring casualties that were several times that of my brothers on the
beach. The USN also slowed down the 'Tokyo Express' by relentlessly attacking the Jap's supply train and thus crippling the forces that the
Marines were facing. I will pick up Dawn Like Thunder...thanks for the tip.
