McCain was competitive with Obama until the stock market crashed in 2008.

Let's face it. McCain was NEVER going to beat Obama in that race. McCain was a nasty, bitter, vindictive, two-timing back-stabbing disloyal curmudgeonly old blowhard. It took me over a week of practicing to suppress my gag reflex before I could walk into that booth and vote for him. I'm sure many never made it over that hump.

Obama on the other hand was largely an unknown quantity to most people. Smiling, smooth-talking attractive black guy. No way McCain was gonna beat THAT.
