He was a terrible president, and thankfully for the country he was soundly defeated by Ronald Reagan in 1980. That said, he does have a sense of decency that Democrats lack in spades today. He allowed for an orderly and peaceful transition of power between himself and Reagan in January of 1981. That’s more than what we can say for two future Democrats presidents and their handing over of power to their Republican successors.
