BALTIMORE (WBFF) Kimberly Klacik, a member of the Republican Central Committee of Baltimore County, announced that she was running for the 7th District seat previously occupied by late Congressman Elijah Cummings.

Klacik made the announcement Saturday afternoon on America's News HQ: Weekend on Fox News. Klacik made headlines after she visited parts of West Baltimore prompting President Trump to call the areas "rat and rodent infested."

The 7th District incorporates parts of Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Howard County. The seat became available after Cummings died in October following longstanding health challenges. Cummings held the seat since 1996.

According to Klacik's website, she is a native of Accokeek, Maryland, in Prince George's County. She moved to the Baltimore area in 2010, where she founded "Potential Me" to assist under-served women with workforce development.

During Klacik's announcement, she told Fox News that "Democrats talk about everything but helping black neighborhoods and 'actively vote against things that offer the black community more opportunities.'"

Klacik also said that "(Democrats) put illegal immigrants needs ahead of the needs of U.S. citizens and the living conditions on the border 'were better than the living conditions in some areas of West Baltimore."
