Boudins parents, Kathy Boudin and David Gilbert, were members of the militant left-wing Weather Underground, which began as a faction of Students for a Democratic Society and gained infamy in the late 60s and the 70s for a spate of political bombingsincluding at the Pentagon and the State Department headquartersin protest of the Vietnam War.
The group was four years dead when Boudins parents handed their 14-month-old to a babysitter and left to participate in one of Americas most notorious crimes, the 1981 Brinks heist, for which they acted as getaway driversGilbert driving and Boudin sitting shotgun in a U-Haul truck that served as a switch vehicle.
The perpetrators, led by members of the Black Liberation Army, got away with $1.6 million before a shootout ensued; three people were killedtwo cops and a security guard.
Boudins parents were sentenced to long prison sentences for their roles in the crime. His father is still incarcerated; his mother was released in 2003 and is now the co-director of the Center for Justice at Columbia University, which works on mass incarceration issues.
In their absence, Boudin was raised in Chicago by their close friends and fellow Weathermen Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn, now a pair of retired academics who still haunt the fever dreams of right-wingers.

Daily News from New York, New York
Saturday, October 24, 1981
Kathy Boudin refused to identify the father of her 18-month-old son on the childs birth certificate. The Daily News learned yesterday that Boudins son, Chesa, was born on Aug. 21, 1980 at Sloan Hospital for Women at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. An obstetrician named Susan Williamson delivered the child. The birth certificate identifies the child as C. Jackson Adams and the mother as Lydia Adams, the name Boudin used to apply for public assistance from the city. Consistent with the welfare application, Lydia Adams gave her age as 34 and her date of birth as April 28. 1946. Boudin, in reality, is 38. In addition, Adams said her place of birth was Colorado and that she was then living at 50 Morningside Drive. The spaces for the fathers name, age and place of birth were left blank.
