[The war on drugs is a miserable failure.]

There is not and has never been a war on drugs stateside. Wars imply emergency measures. And mass death. The day we execute drug dealers and impose mandatory detox on addicts, with prison terms for relapses, is the day a war on drugs begins. Mexico’s problem is that it doesn’t even have a death penalty for murder. Indonesia’s probably more corrupt than Mexico, but the universal application of the death penalty for just about every criminal homicide means a murder rate 1/10 of the US.

Very true and I was trying to say that we haven't had any kind of real war since WWII because we've gotten all silly with our rules of engagement. We've not been serious about any war since. War means killing the other SOBs until there aren't any left to fight.

I'd just as soon give druggies only the very best dope for free and let them thin their ranks ASAP. They're killing themselves anyway, why not just give them a hand and speed the process up.
