The one thing I haven’t seen noted is that Bevin ran behind, sometimes very far behind his Republican counterparts. His support of tolling for the replacement bridge over the Ohio River went over like a lead balloon.
For comparison:
Bevin (Gov) 48.9%
Adams (Sec of State) 52.2%
Ball (Treasurer) 60.6%
Cameron (AG) 57.7% (eat it Herald-Leader!)
Harmon (Auditor) 55.6%
Quarles (Ag Commissioner) 58.2%

Bevin knew his numbers were in the toilet and yet he went through with it. Either he’s politically autistic, or he’s tired of being governor. From a money standpoint, he obviously needs the job like he needs a hole in the heart. But assuming he was in it because he wanted to be governor of KY, he really went about his re-election effort in a very strange way, repeatedly sabotaging his chance of a second term.
