‘They’ just don’t understand irony do they?

For years when people say

“If I don’t see you, have a nice Christmas (whatever)”

My response is

“So if you DO see me, you don’t want me to have a nice Christmas (whatever)”?

I think that dates back to my well traveled yute when a certain aunt would come home for a break my first question ALWAYS was ‘When are you leaving?’.

I guess to a ‘normal’ person that was an ‘insult’ but in my juvenile mind I was asking how long would we be able to enjoy her company..(or something like that) AND they probably didn’t believe my explanation either.
(Guess a result of ‘hot bunking’ at an early age. Would go to sleep in one bed and wake up the next morning in another...WITHOUT the ‘state’ to help (hmmm), back in the 40s people survived on their own wits...hence FAMILY took care of FAMILY.)
